Weekly Update

I posted about our race yesterday, but I wanted to share the rest of my runs for the week, too.

I started out with a 3 mile run Sunday morning:

I love watching the town wake up while I run.  I start out in the dark and by the time I finish, it's daylight.  It's one of my favorite parts of running early in the morning!

I went to the gym Monday morning for some elliptical time, then ran again on Tuesday morning...

I got tons of comments about my shirt when I posted that one on FB :)

I rested my legs on Wednesday, and then did the elliptical again on Thursday.  I didn't want to run again because my left foot hurts for a day or two after I run, and I didn't want anything to mess up my race on Friday.

The Glow in the Park run was pretty slow for me, which I guess is due to the paint/powder stations, and the fact that I run better early in the morning, but hey, it's 3 miles, right?

So far, I'm at 27 miles, out of my 30 mile goal for July, so I should be able to reach (and maybe pass) my goal for July!

Glow in the Park 5k!

Last night was our July race...yes, it was at NIGHT.  It's called Glow in the Park, and with our race packs, we got glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets, light-up rings and glow in the dark paint to paint on ourselves before the race started.

You know we love to take pics, so here is our small group from last night, before we got all glowy!

and after we got all fixed up...

The race was at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, which is the same place we ran the Color Me Rad 5k at the beginning of June.  We were hoping it was not the same route, which had lots of steep hills.  It wasn't the same route, but this route had a couple of long hills, not steep, just long stretches of road.  I'm not sure which I prefer, ha!

Along the route, we went through stations where people were throwing glow in the dark powder and paint on us.  Unlike Color Me Rad, it was easier this time to avoid a lot of powder and paint if you didn't want to be covered in it.  However, we also had to go through a foam pit twice on this route!

We were a sweaty glowing mess after the race...

but we sure had fun!

It was a little weird running at night, but also really cool to see all of the glow in the dark "jewelry" bouncing around while people were running.  The paint didn't show up so well...until I got home.  John could see me when I came in our bedroom after the race...glowing.  Ha!!  It was pretty funny.

It was a little scary at some parts of the race because we could not see where we were going at night, but overall a really fun race!

Just in case...

you were wondering, or you are new to the blog, I thought you might find it interesting to see what we were doing during this same week in

It is AMAZING to me to see how much Fitz has grown and changed in the past two years!  I continue to marvel at the fact that God chose John and I to be his parents, and how much He has blessed us with Fitz.

And no, I'm not sad that he is growing up.  I'm excited about each new chapter in his life!  Next up?  Potty training!  Nope, not sad at all :)

Hump Day Dump

Nothing much exciting going on this week, but here's a few pics that didn't make FB or the blog yet...

Uncle Zac surprised Fitz with a huge sucker at church on Sunday, which he loved...

John's mom told me when we were dating that he inherited a love of cars from his father, and that he would always want a new car, so to watch out for that.  That has proven to be absolutely correct, and I must say, it's amusing to see our two year old son already have the same love of cars and motorcycles as his Daddy!  It truly must be in the blood line!

I absolutely love Christmas and everything about it.  John's cousin posted a link to this website the other day, on my FB wall.  It is hilarious!

Technology is awesome...sometimes I get to FaceTime with Fitz while I'm at work.  Look at that sweet face smiling at his Mama!

Park Play

Although we live in a fairly small town, we are fortunate to have a really fun park, where Fitz loves to play!  We met Papa there on Saturday evening for a little fun...

We did a little swingin' and a lot of slidin'

Fitz thought he found the perfect sized "swing," and sat down for a ride...

and of course, he was very excited to find any sort of steering wheel, and gave it a go, too:

Getting my very handsome hubby to smile for a picture is difficult, but here's a selfie of us:

"I was running!"

I'm really happy with my progress this week!

I started out with a two mile run Monday morning, and stopped to admire my pretty flowers after my run...

I know I said I'm not going to do my GFF posts anymore, but I have to share that I did really well with my eating this week, too.  Maybe all it took was having a mini-breakdown about it last week, to get me back on track.  This is an example of my morning snack this week...water, carrots and a little dressing for dipping.

I mixed it up with Intervals class on Tuesday morning.  We used a mat, kettle bell, hand weights and a bosu.  I love using the bosu!

I didn't like the fitness classes much when I first started them a few years ago, but now I love them.  Our instructor is really motivational and pushes me more than I would push myself if I worked out on my own.  Sometimes, I look around during the class and get very discouraged when I see how much smaller people are, or how much better they can do some of the exercises...then I see people who are not as advanced as I am, and it motivates me to do even better, and keep trying harder.  A one hour class can have many ups and downs and many thoughts for me, but I really do love going to the classes, and wish my schedule would allow me to go to more than I do now.

Wednesday was time for another run.  On Tuesday, I saw where a friend of mine downloaded the 20 best running songs of all time, so I got them, too.  It made my Wednesday run much better!  The songs are not at all appropriate and there is rough language, but they do get the blood pumping!  I ran 3 miles.

I did intervals on the elliptical machine on Thursday morning, then went for another 3 mile run this morning.

I wound up running 8 miles this week, which puts me at 18 out of my goal of 30 for the month of July!  I should definitely pass my goal again this month, which means I will go up and really push myself for more in August.

I also lost weight this week, which makes me very happy, and makes me want to keep trying to reach my goal weight!  I'm not brave enough to share the number, but I may post before and after pics when I reach it :)

Thanks for the prayers and support after my post last week, love y'all!

Perfect Summer Saturday

We had it yesterday, the perfect summertime Saturday!  Fitz slept later than he ever has before...he woke up at 9:15, and only then because I started laundry outside his room, and opened his bedroom door!  We ate a quick breakfast, jumped in our swimsuits and went to Aunt Heddy's to swim.

It was cloudy, but the sun broke through every now and then, and not very hot...perfect pool weather.  Tootsie met us there, and Fitz had fun playing in the pool with her, too.

Fitz also had fun outside the pool, playing with Heather's kitty cat and new big dog...

We stayed in the pool until about 2:00, then headed home when it started sprinkling.  It was nap time anyway, so perfect timing.  We went home, unpacked our bag, and I put Fitz down for a nap, then read a book for a little while.

When Daddy got home from work, Fitz woke up from his nap, and ate dinner not long afterwards, then met Papa at a local park to feed the squirrels.  We were all prepared with bags of peanuts, and on the hunt for some squirrels.  Usually, it's difficult to even walk in this park for all the squirrels, but they were hiding yesterday.

And of course, we had to pause for a Mommy and Fitz selfie...

We did see a few squirrels and Fitz thought it was so funny when they would run up to get a nut and take it off with them.  He had so much fun just running wild out there, that it didn't really matter to him whether there were lots of squirrels or not.  He did decide to get down and throw some nuts himself though...

From pool time with Tootsie and Heather to nap time to fun at the park with Daddy and Papa...all together a perfect summer Saturday.

GFF...the final post

No, not the final post ever, just the final Get Fit Friday post...which I will explain.

First, let me say, I did well with my exercise this week.  I started the week out with a run on Sunday in Mississippi, and looped around the tiny town over to where my grandmother used to live when I was a little girl...

That tiny little porch area on the front used to have a railing all the way down it, between the columns.  We thought it was huge.  My cousins and I would play "store" with me and my cousin, Matthew, being in charge because we were oldest.  We worked the store and made the other cousins come and buy stuff from us.  We also used to sit there with our Granddaddy, before he died, and swat flies.  We were always barefoot here, outside or inside, and never had a care in the world.  We loved it.  Anyway...

Monday, I went to the gym and after the elliptical, did some squats, lunges, planks and crunches...trying to work in some muscle building instead of all cardio.

Tuesday morning, I went for a very muggy, foggy, slow run downtown...

Wednesday, I went back for some more elliptical work, and then did some crunches.

And to round it out, I went for another 2 mile run this morning, bringing my total for the week up to 7 miles.  I caught a glimpse of myself in the window where I parked this morning, and had to snap a quick pic...

My goal for July is 30 miles, and so far, I have run 10 miles, so I feel pretty good about that.

I did pretty well with eating this week, too, other than last Saturday at the family reunion.  I did indulge in some yummy desserts after a southern made lunch.  I ate lots of fruit and salads this week, and felt really good about that...until I weighed myself this morning.

I gained another pound.  I am so discouraged about this.  Hence, the last GFF post.  I thought if I did these posts that it would keep me accountable and help me really make lasting changes with my diet and fitness.  It has done that with my working out, and I plan to keep blogging about my running, which I really enjoy, and I also plan to keep making monthly running goals for myself.  I will update about those things, for sure.  The GFF posts have not helped much with keeping me accountable on eating, although to be very honest, I eat well for the most part.  Usually on Friday or Saturday nights, John and I order something out and eat what we want for dinner, but otherwise, I am pretty conscientious about my eating.  I'm not sure what the problem is, but it is very difficult for me to keep blogging about running and working out, then report that I have either gained a pound, or just not lost anything.  I can't keep doing that every Friday.

My hope and prayer is that I will figure out the exact right formula for my body, like a I did a few years ago, and be able to report back to y'all in a few months with major progress, but in the meantime, I will not be doing my weekly GFF posts.  I didn't want to stop doing them without an explanation, and I'm not even sure how many people pay any attention to them anyway, but maybe I can do an update in a few months with something more encouraging to report.

For now, I've done 10 out my 30 miles of running for July, and I hope and plan to meet my goal for this month again, and maybe to raise it again next month!  I don't plan to stop trying to get fit, so don't send me comments and messages about worries there!  I'm still a work in progress, I just won't be sharing so much of my progress.

Family Reunion 2013

It's that time again...time for the annual family reunion!  I did a detailed post about our annual family reunion on the blog last summer, so I won't bore you with the same info all over again.

Me and Brianne, missing our partner in crime this year!

We had lots of laughs, too much food, and tons of fun watching the little ones Miss Everly, who attended for the first time.  Is she not the cutest thing you've ever seen?!?

Once Fitz saw that she had a ball, he got down to help her play with it.

But the most fun he had was running wild and free outside with Uncle Zac close behind.

We stayed at Glenn and Brianne's house again this year, but this time we stayed Saturday night instead of Friday.  We loved watching Everly squeal and throw her chubby little legs up in the air!

On our way out of town Sunday, we stopped to see Grandmama.  I've told y'all about her before, and about her personal care home where she lives.  She wasn't much different this time...very happy but confused.  She's not sure who we are, but I think she enjoyed visiting with us.

These pictures would have four generations in them, but Fitz was too busy running and throwing rocks to stop and take a picture with us, ha!

We enjoyed our visit, too, and had fun at the family reunion!  We can't wait to do it again next year!
