Happy Halloween 2012

Look at our Itsy Bitsy Spider!

The costume has a hat...

but Fitz was not interested in it AT ALL.  He took it off immediately, every time I put it on his head.  So...

Daddy had to try it on and show everyone what it looked like!

Usually, our neighborhood is SO busy on Halloween, because the houses are close together and it's flat.  We started out early, and our neighborhood was dead this year.  No pun intended.

Our buddy, Skylar, came to trick-or-treat with Fitz, and after we visited the few houses in our neighborhood that were participating, we headed down the street to another subdivision and it was hopping!  We saw lots of people we know, and had much more fun!

Fitz clearly had no idea what was going on, but we were outside, with other kids to look at, so he had a great time!

Y'all know I love a comparison pic, so there he is, 2011 and 2012.  He's so big!

Family Photos 2012

When we took our pumpkin pics of Fitz, we also got Heather to take some family photos!

I'm only sharing a few on the blog, because I'm sure you'll see them again when you get our Christmas card.

Thank you again to Heather for being so enthusiastic and taking a hundred photos of us, then spending your time editing us to perfection!  We love you, Aunt Heddy!

I saw this idea on Pinterest last year, and thought about trying it, but never followed through with it.

Thank goodness, I have an awesome friend who follows through on creative ideas!  My friend, Heather (aka Aunt Heddy), who I've talked about before, has a fabulous camera and an artistic eye for posing and editing photos.  This week on FB, we've been kicking around this idea, and she made it happen!

Don't you just love that shot of my two guys and their dimples??  Back off girls, one is taken and the other is too young!

I love all of them!

A few tips if you're thinking of trying this.  Heather gutted the pumpkin the night before so it wasn't really wet and cold when we did the photos.  We also put a couple of dish towels in the pumpkin for him to sit on.  It really didn't bother him a bit.  He liked it the best up on the table, or when we were holding him, so he could dangle his feet.  I think he just thought it was some kind of new high chair, ha!

Ear Tubes, Take Two

Today, we had Fitz's second set of tubes put in his ears.  His first set was put in when he had his first cleft lip surgery, when he was four months old.  At that time, he had his tubes, circumcision and cleft lip repair.  This time,  it was only ear tubes.

They told us to be there at 6:00 a.m., and surgery would be between 7:00-7:30.  We were on time.  They were not.  They put us in a room at about 6:45, and did all of the pre-op procedure, then told us we were just waiting on the doctor to arrive.  By the time they took him back for surgery at about 8:40, Fitz was NOT a happy camper.  He was starving, and thirsty, and couldn't understand why we wouldn't give him any breakfast.  When the nurse came to get him, he screamed at her and reached back for me, which almost put me over the edge, but I held it together.  By the time John went to get us some coffee at Starbucks and came back, the doctor was back telling us how well everything went, and I felt a lot better.  As soon as they brought him in, I gave him his juice and he was back to our happy boy.

We left shortly after they brought him back, and were shocked at having a surgery where we got to leave the hospital on the same day, with a happy baby who felt great!  He ate an early lunch when we got home, then took a two hour nap.  After his nap, he had a snack, and wanted to go...where?  You guessed it, OUTSIDE.

He walked, and played, and all the neighbors who stopped by couldn't even tell that he had surgery earlier today!

We played outside for about an hour, then headed back in to cook supper.  I've been trying some Pinterest recipes this week, and all of them have turned out great!  Tonight, I made a pizza casserole:

It was actually really good!  John's statement was:  "This is great!  It definitely needs to be added to our regular rotation."  Success!

We were not very worried about this surgery at all, after the other surgeries Fitz has already had, but it was still odd to us to be able to just walk out of the hospital a couple of hours after we got there, with a happy baby.  Fitz felt great after surgery, and that was bizarre to us!  We made friends in the waiting room with another family whose son was having his cleft palate repair today.  They live near us, and the mom and I exchanged numbers before we left so we can get the boys together to play.  I was excited to meet someone else whose son had a bilateral cleft, which is more unusual than a unilateral cleft, and was happy to be able to tell her what to expect following the palate repair.  Our plastic surgeon does a great job of explaining all of that, but it's different coming from a mother who just went through it a few months ago, and I was glad to be able to share that with the other mother.  God clearly orchestrated that meeting!

We're aiming for no surgeries for any family members in 2013!

Baby Shower Road Trip

On Sunday, Tootsie, Fitz and I loaded up and headed to Mississippi to attend my cousin Brianne's baby shower!  Fitz just had to sit up on the gift display table and play for a bit, ha!

He sat with Tootsie while...

Brianne opened her gifts, like this one from me.  Those are leopard print tights made to look like Mary Jane's on the feet.  So cute!

After being cooped up in the car on the drive over, Fitz was ready to play, and didn't sit with Tootsie for long.  My cousin Matthew's daughter, Addi, helped entertain Fitz and watch him explore:

Here's a shot of the mommy-to-be and me, by the food, and the gorgeous cake:

We had so much fun celebrating with Brianne, and can not wait to meet Miss Everly Jane Mason in December!  She is much loved and spoiled already!

Fall Fun!

We've had such a fun Saturday!  First, we left early to go have Fitz's pictures made.  Kamin, who did our spring pictures, in the red wagon, did a Fall/Winter mini-session today, and we were excited to sign up with her again!  I'm so happy with how Fitz behaved for his pictures, and can't wait to see them!

After that, Tootsie and Jessy met us in Clanton at The Very Merry Market, a Christmas themed arts & crafts show.  This was the first year for it, and although there weren't a ton of booths, there was some really cute stuff to look at, and we had a great time!

Then, we went to Kristy's church for their Family Fun Day!

We went last year, and Fitz was just a little baby.  This year, he had much more fun participating!

We played outside a while first, then went inside for lunch.  Although Fitz had already had lunch, he ate nachos and cheese with Tootsie.

And fed me a cookie:

We heard some good southern gospel music, which Fitz loved, played Bingo, and did a Cake Walk!

Fitz crawled all over the gym, and wore himself out!

We always have so much fun visiting with Kristy's church family, and are so thankful that they include us in all the fun!

Fun with Fitz and Fancie!

Proud of his Halloween jammies!

I've probably mentioned before that Fitz and Fancie know which toys are his, and which are hers.  Fancie never bothers Fitz's toys, and Fitz only gets into Fancie's toy box in order to get a toy for her to play with.  He likes to go get one of her favorite toys, and bring it to her to make her play with him.  He shakes the toy in her face, and you can almost hear him thinking "Nanny nanny boo boo, I got your toy!"  Sometimes she decides to participate and play with him, and sometimes she just glares at him.

She participated tonight, to Fitz's great delight:

Perfect Pumpkin Muffins

I know this is not a recipe blog, and I'm certainly not much of a cook or baker, but if I can make these muffins turn out perfectly pumpkin, then so can you.  John's mom gave me this recipe a few years ago, and I make them every fall because they are delicious!  Fitz ate one for breakfast, and he agrees.

What you need:
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 (15 oz) can Libby pure pumpkin
3/4 teaspoon vanilla

What to do:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Combine flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, salt and baking soda in one bowl.

Beat butter, brown sugar and sugar until creamy, in another bowl.

Add pumpkin, vanilla and eggs to butter/sugar mixture.

Gradually add flour mixture.

Bake for 20 minutes.

This makes a lot of muffins!  I've started making them in mini-muffin tins and it still makes about 30 mini muffins, or 12-15 large muffins.  If you like pumpkin at all, trust me, make these muffins.  You will love them!

Swedish Festival 2012

I told y'all about the local Swedish Festival last year, and even though John was not in the parade this year, we still went to enjoy all of the festivities.

I so love comparing old photos to new ones.  Above is a shot of me, Tootsie and Fitz at last year's Swedish Fest Parade, and this year's parade.

We got there a little early this year, and Fitz was getting tired of waiting, but once he had a sucker, he was good to go:

We saw bands, fire trucks, twirlers, and crazy looking clowns riding on machinery:

After we looked around at the booths a bit, Fitz was ready for a  nap.

He perked up in time for lunch with Tootsie and our friend, Jessy, and was ready for shopping all afternoon!

Look Who's Walking Now (Video)

A few weeks ago, I posted a video of Fitz walking behind one of his toys.  Well, the past few days, he has been walking on his own more and more!  He almost always does it when we tell him to, and now he'll do it on his own as well!  See?

He is always SO proud of himself, and he always gets back up and goes for more after he falls down!

Another funny thing he has been doing lately is standing on his head, almost like he's thinking about turning a somersault.  He thinks he's so funny.  Who am I kidding?  This boy is hilarious, and he knows it!

Pumpkin Patch Playdate!

Today, we had a long overdue playdate with our friend, Mary Eloise!  We took a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch!

I've told y'all before how different these two babies are, and that has not changed, even though they are several months older now than they were when I first posted about that!

Mary Eloise is an experienced and confident walker, who wanted to explore everything she could find, while Fitz is just starting to walk a bit, and preferred to observe the events from wherever I sat him, ha!  He particularly liked this pile of pumpkins and wanted to sit there even when the rest of us were ready to move on.

I've been planning this blog post for a couple of weeks, since we planned our outing, because I've been excited to compare his photos from last year to the ones this year.  I was not disappointed in the results:

Pumpkin Patch 2011 and Pumpkin Patch 2012
Just look at that big boy!

We found all sorts of pumpkins at the patch.  From very large ones, like medium ones:

and teeny tiny green ones:

We took a wagon ride out to the actual pumpkin patch.

And when we got there, Denise (Mary Eloise's mom) totally busted my bubble about the pumpkins!  Here's how our conversation went:

Me:  "I think it's so neat how the pumpkins just grow and lay out all over this field."
Denise:  "I think they just lay them out here for you to pick them, they don't actually grow here."
Me:  (Totally deflated)  "Oh....well ok."

LOL!  It was so funny!

Fitz found a couple he liked:

And this was the best we could do on getting a picture of the babies together in the "patch".

We had such a good time, and are already talking about letting the kids take a ride on the pony next year, and jump in the bounce houses!  We love fall!
