A Sweet Blog Award

A new blog friend, Elenie, at The Counts, gave me an award!

Liebster is a German word and it means, sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome. The award is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers.

These are the 11 questions Elenie gave me to answer about myself:

1.  Where was your first date with your hubby/significant other?

We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner, then back to his apartment to watch a movie.  We talked from the time he picked me up until the time he dropped me off, and I knew he was something pretty special right away!

2.  What is your favorite movie?

I have so many!  I love Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, Father of the Bride 1&2, Legally Blonde 1&2, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Big Daddy, Billy Madison.  All faves!

3.  Do you have any special talents?  If so, what are they?

My husband would say my special talent is arguing, ha!  I don't really have any special talents that I can think of.

4.  How long have you been blogging and why do you like to blog?

I started blogging in February 2011 when I was pregnant with our son, Fitz.  I love sharing about our daily lives, and the milestones he is reaching all the time.  I love that our family who lives out of town can keep up with us this way, and it helps me remember all the stuff Fitz does.

5.  Do you like to cook?  If so, what is your favorite recipe?

Cooking stresses me out.  Is it going to turn out right?  Are people going to like it?  If I have made something before, I enjoy making it again because I know it will be good, but cooking is not a favorite activity of mine.

6.  Pepsi or Coke products?

I'm a Diet Coke girl, all the way!

7.  If you could go back in time to one moment in your life, what moment would you pick?

This is a hard question!  I'm not sure why I would want to go back to a moment in my life.  I wouldn't change a thing.  I think God planned my life, and He is in control, so I wouldn't want anything changed from how it happened originally.  If I was going back to a really great moment, it would be when John and I were pronounced man and wife, the moment when we told our parents we were pregnant, or the moment Fitz was born.  Those were the highlighting moments!

8.  How many children do you have/would you like to have?

I have one child, Fitz, and do not want any more!  If God chose to give us another child, we would, of course, consider that child a blessing, and be excited, but we are very happy with Fitz.

9.  What is the one beauty product you absolutely can't live without?

MASCARA.  I'm a mascara freak.  If there is a new one out, I buy it.  All kinds, no particular kind, I love them all.  I have probably 10 tubes rolling around in various makeup bags.

10.  Name 3 things in your purse right now.

Wallet, Lipstick, Nail File

11.  Did you or do you play any sports?  If so, what?

When I was much younger, I played basketball and softball.  I was never very good, but I had fun with my friends.  When I was in high school, I was the school mascot, Tomahawk Ted!

I am giving the Liebster Award to:

2.  Ashley @ Him & Me Plus 3
3.  Tracey @ Tracey Is Trying Again

11 Questions from Me.

1.  What do you do for your career?
2.  Where is your favorite place to shop?
3.  If you could meet any famous person (currently living), who would it be and why?
4.  What would be your dream job?
5.  What are 3 words that best describe you?
6.  What is your biggest fear?
7.  What is your favorite TV show?
8.  Are you a Christian?  If so, share the story of how you got saved.
9.  What was your first date with your hubby?  How long after that did you get married?
10.  What are your favorite blogs to read?
11.  What do you do to relax?

Rules for the Liebster Award are as follows:
(1) Post 11 things about yourself, (2) Answer the questions that your nominating blogger has set for you and then create 11 questions for your nominees, (3) choose up to 11 blogs to nominate and link them in your post, (4) go to their respective blogs and let them know, and (5) no tag backs!

A Day In My Life

My day usually starts at 5 a.m.  John has to leave early for work, so we both get up when he needs to get up.

Right now, I'm doing another round of the HCG diet, so the first thing I do when I get up is weigh myself and take my drops.  I have to wait 30 minutes to eat, so I do my daily devotion, and then check FB while I wait.  Then, I drink my unsweet tea or coffee and eat a sliced apple.

Eventually, (usually between 6 and 6:30) I hear shuffling on the monitor and turn the video part on to see Fitz moving around in his bed.  I wait until he sitting up, fully awake before I go get him.

His eyes are always closed like that when I first turn on the light, but he's also grinning!

He snuggles bunny while I change his diaper and/or clothes:

He wants breakfast immediately, and is not playing around with taking photos for the blog while he's trying to eat, see?

He had grits and yogurt, and was much happier spending a little time with Daddy on the couch before we had to get ready:

Normally, while I get ready for work, Fitz plays here

but on the day I did these photos of my day, Daddy was off work, so he played with Daddy while I got ready.

If we are going to the babysitter's house (as opposed to Tootsie coming here, or going to Grandmama's house), we aim to leave at:

We tell Daddy "bye-bye" and head out to Ms. Britney's house.

I can't wait until Fitz is forward facing and can see better, so I can say, "Here come the goats!"

I stopped on the side of the road to get this pic.

Ms. Britney lives in a rural area of our rural county, so we get to see lots of animals on our drive.

I drop Fitz off, and head to the office.

Don't worry, I was at a stop sign!

I head to my office, and see what kind of cupcakes I'll have to avoid each day.  Yesterday?  Red Velvet, Birthday Cake and Wedding Cake!

I did some work, saw some clients, and headed to the Tag Office at lunch because I got a new car this week!

Around 2:30, I walked across the street to the courthouse for a hearing, then was back at my office before 4:00.  I left the office around 4 because it had been a LONG day.

My favorite part of the day is picking up Fitz.  He usually is very happy to see me, but yesterday, he was trying to wake up his friend Sadie and was worried about her:

I usually try to be home, with Fitz, by 4:30 or a little after, and I feed him dinner as soon as we get home.  Since I'm doing this diet right now, we don't eat as a family much.  John goes to a class at the gym at 4:30, so he eats when he gets home.

Fitz ate a chicken, veggie, rice meal with mashed potatoes, then played with his toys:

He likes to hold up each animal, for us to
tell him what it is.  "Giraffe!"

and Fancie

while I ate my pitiful dinner:

Apples and Chicken.  We're allowed a veggie, too, but I wasn't
in the mood for lettuce.

I also put a graham cracker on my plate, so when Fitz crawled over and wanted a bite, I had something good to give him.

We played with Daddy a little more, then about 6:30, we take a bath.

See those top teeth?

We put our jammies on, and play with Daddy.

Once Fitz starts snuggling with bunny and laying down in the floor (around 7 p.m.), I know he's ready for bed.

He tells Daddy "night-night", and I take him upstairs, turn his turtle stars on, turn his nighttime Scout music on, and lay he and bunny in the bed.  I say a prayer for him and tell him good night.

Then, John and I watch TV and talk until we head to bed.  I'm usually asleep by 8:30, but hey, it's been a long day!

So that's it, in case you were wondering.  That's how my days go!

Our Nation

I almost posted this as a status on FB, but I didn't want to spark a debate that was 30 comments long, so I figured I would do a blog post instead, so if people don't care what I have to say, they don't have to see it in their news feed all day long.

I keep seeing people say "What is wrong with these people?" and "How could someone do this?" and "Why do these things happen?" about the recent shootings in Toronto, Tuscaloosa and Denver.  The answer is because we live in a fallen world, and we live in a nation that continually turns its back on God.  Evil exists in our nation, in our world, and evil is perpetuated by our country turning its back on our God.  The God who created us all.  What does He say about this?

He says in Isaiah 59:2:  "But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God..."

He says in 2 Kings 17:13:  "Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes..."

Is that the end?  Does He not love us anymore because of our evil, sinful ways?

No, because he further says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (1 John 1:9)  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.  (Romans 6:23).

The longer our nation continues to do things that are against God's commandments, and that are sinful, the more stories we're going to hear about just how evil people can be.  The only thing that can save us, is to confess our sins, and turn back to God.  This country was founded on Christian principles, by Christian people, who loved God and wanted to be free to worship as they chose, but it's turned into a nation that hates God and all He stands for, and we're seeing the results of that.  These things that are happening should make us mad enough to do something about it.  What can we do?

All of the Christians out there need to get out and vote, and elect Christian people with Godly values and morals, who are not afraid to stand up for what we believe in.  People who will not bow to pressure from the media and celebrities about what our beliefs are.  Until we do that, these stories will just keep coming, one after another.

Trying New Foods

At our 1 year check-up, the doctor told us that Fitz should mostly be eating what we eat, and not eating baby food anymore.  However, since he didn't start experimenting with "real" food as early as most babies, due to his cleft palate, we've still been using baby food to supplement his diet.

The past few days, though, he has been eating primarily real food!

Chicken nugget bites, green beans and tater tots

He's had grits the past two days for breakfast, and loved them.  He's had chicken nuggets and tater tots for dinner the past couple of nights, and loved them, too.  In the past few days, he's tried cheese toast, toasted bread with a (very light) layer of peanut butter on it, corn nuggets, and apple slices.

He loves goldfish crackers, Honey Nut Cheerios, Teddy Grahams, and Graham crackers, too.

Someone else in our house is VERY interested in what Fitz eats, as well.

I'm so glad he's an adventurous eater.  He'll mostly try anything I give him, including salsa at Del Toro last week, and usually likes everything he tries.  I so hope he stays this way and doesn't become a picky eater, like I am!

A New Feature

Now that Fitz is very mobile, he has discovered the stairs.  We live in a town house, so on the bottom level are the foyer, living room, dining room and kitchen, and all of the bedrooms and the laundry room are upstairs.

Fitz has enjoyed crawling to the foyer, where the floor has tiles, to throw his red block around, for quite a while.  However, he recently discovered the stairs and LOVES to climb them.  See that grin?  He knows what he's doing.

He can be up the hallway to the stairs and up to the third or fourth stair before you can even blink your eyes!  And he does NOT climb back down, he just dives backwards, expecting you to be there to catch him.  It will scare you to death!

So, we figured it was finally time for the baby gate.

They make lots of pretty gates now that are not those ugly wooden ones from when we were small (although they still have those and they are very cheap!).  The new ones also have swinging doors that open easily with one hand, so we don't have to climb over the gate every time we want to go upstairs.  See?

It is much easier to let Fitz just wander around downstairs now that we know he can't get to the stairs and hurt himself!

He hasn't fussed about not being able to get to the stairs, he just crawls to the gate and tries to shake it.

Fancie, on the other hand, is NOT happy about the gate.  When it's closed, she can't get to the front door to see out those windows on either side of it.  She's much happier after Fitz goes to bed (at about 7 p.m.) and we leave the gate open.

Fitz's New Playground...

John's not mad, he just didn't want to be in the picture, ha!

...the couch.  All Fitz wants to do these days is play on the couch.  He likes to bounce on it, stand on it, flop around it, you name it, and if it's on the couch, he wants to do it.

If he is playing in the floor, and sees someone come sit on the couch, he crawls right over, pulls up to standing position and fusses until you pick him up...especially if it's his Daddy.

It's quite tiring for Fitz to play on the couch because you have to be ready to catch him at all times.  He has no concept of the edge of the couch, and will throw himself backwards towards the edge...FAST.  Or his legs get tired of standing and he will scoot back before he sits, and gets right to the edge.  Whew, it's got to be a work out for him too!

He also likes to play "Where's Fitz?" on the couch, with his head buried in the blankets or the corner.  He thinks it is so funny.  See?

Did ya catch a glimpse of those FOUR teeth?
In case you missed them, he has two on the top and two on the bottom!

Family Reunion

For as long as I can remember, and since before I was born, my mom's extended family has been getting together on the first Saturday in July for a family reunion.  When I was younger, I was not a fan, but as I get older, I realize how rare it is for big families to consistently see each other, and catch up, and I like it!

We went to Small Town, Mississippi Friday afternoon (me, Tootsie, Uncle Zac and Fitz...John had to work), and stayed with my cousin Glenn and his wife Brianne that night.  Saturday morning, we headed to Smaller Town, MS for our reunion!

The first photo shows my Aunt Bonnie, my Grandmama, Aunt Joan, Brianne and Glenn in back, Rachel and her nieces (my second cousins) Brooke and Addi, Casse, Mom, Jennifer, Zac, Olivia, Matthew, Uncle Michael, Me and Fitz, Aunt Shelley, Clay, Tessa and Aunt Nedo.  That is not our whole crew, but it's most of us!

I took this photo of the food table after we started eating, but you can see how much there was!

And who can forget desserts?

My Grandmama has Alzheimer's and lives in a personal care home now, but she still gets to come to our reunions and for holidays, and we always love to see her.

She had 13 brothers and sisters, and the only ones left (I think) are her and her sister, Mamie.  Look how pretty they are:

When I was a child, our reunion was OUTSIDE in Mississippi in JULY.  Do you know what that means?  H-O-T!  I can remember using a tree for a toilet, sweating profusely, sliding down dirt hills with my cousins, and riding in the back of my Uncle Bob's truck.

Over the years, my mom's Uncle Grady (Mamie's husband), has built a cabin with air conditioning, a bathroom, kitchen and furniture in it.  It's so much better!

When we get there, we hang out and talk, and this year, we introduced Fitz to everyone.  He tried out sitting with a few different people, but mostly stuck with his buddy, Uncle Zac.

He went for a short walk to the creek with my Aunt Nedo, and seemed to enjoy it.  She keeps up with my blog and faithfully shares it with her FB friends, and I was so glad she got to visit with Fitz, and that we got a photo for the blog!

After we eat lunch, we go outside and take photos of each family group (like the first one), and sweat a little before heading back inside to sit around and chat a while.

This photo is me with my favorite cousins-in-law, Brianne (who is carrying my next second cousin!) and Jennifer.  I'm so thankful to my cousins, Glenn and Matthew, for marrying sweet girls who became my good friends!  Love these girls!

Funny side story - we always look at photo albums from past reunions, and one of them this year had the 2010 reunion photos.  In those photos, Brianne, Jennifer and I all have on the same outfits we wore this year!  Jennifer and I decided to wear pink next year and Brianne can wear black!

I didn't post all the photos of every family group, but this one is my  mom and her sisters.  Left to right:  Aunt Shelley, Aunt Bonnie, my mom and Aunt Nedo.

We have a pretty big family, and not everyone who was there is pictured in this post.  My Grandmama and her sister, Mamie, married my Granddaddy (he passed away when I was 5), and his brother, Grady.  Sisters married brothers.  So, my mom and her sisters have double first cousins.  Some of her friends say her family tree doesn't fork, ha!  Anyway, a lot of times we have people from both sides of the family and it was really fun to introduce Fitz to all of those generations!  He was only a few weeks old last year so we didn't make it to the reunion, but we'll be there from now on!

We had so much fun, and we'll see y'all next year!

Snack Time

Now that Fitz is eating "real" food, one of his favorite times of day is snack time (he must get that from me!).

He loves to eat out of this snack bowl that I got as a baby shower gift:

What's inside?

Cheerios, baby goldfish, puffs, teddy grahams.

Look who else is interested in the snack bowl...

Fancie watches patiently as Fitz eats his snack...

Then moves a little closer and licks her lips...

And finally decides she better get in front where he can see her!  Once he noticed her, he very politely shared his snack with her.

He loves to share his food with Fancie.  If he's in his high chair eating, and notices her in her new favorite spot, which is below the high chair waiting to catch food we drop, he drops her down a little nibble.  As long as it comes from Fitz, she'll eat it.  Peas, carrots, graham crackers, she eats it all!

Sweet Fitz

Lately, Fitz has been so sweet with his stuffed animals...especially his bunny.

He's loved his bunny since he got it from Tootsie for Easter, but now he hugs it all the time!  See?

When he hugs his bunny, we'll say "Ooooh weeee!" and he just grins so big!

He also likes to bite bunny's ears, ha!

And I guess you'll notice, the red block is never far away, even when he's loving on bunny.

Speaking of which, we couldn't find it the other day.  John and I looked everywhere for it after he went to bed, and it was nowhere to be found.  The next morning, I happened to think where it might be.  One of Fitz's favorite birthday gifts is the barn that our friends Melanie and Maria got him.  It has a silo that is open at the top, and has a door at the bottom.  He loves to put things in it at the top, but doesn't know how to work the door at the bottom.  I opened the silo door, and out rolled the red block!  Whew!  That was a close one!

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day from our little firecracker!

The photo above shows Fitz sitting in this same red chair on July 4, 2011...wow, one year makes a huge difference!

One year older, much bigger, but still, "Mommy's Little Firecracker".

We hope y'all have a great day celebrating our country's independence with your family and friends!
