One Year Old Pics

A few weeks ago, our friend Kamin held a mini summer photo session.

It was the perfect time to have Fitz's one year photos made, and I'm so glad we did!

It was a pretty spring/summer day, and we took these first thing in the morning, when Fitz was really happy!

He did not want to put his red block down, and I was afraid he would get really mad if I took it from him, so we just took the photos with it.  That way, we'll preserve that memory of how much he loved that block, once he's a big boy!

Kamin did a great job with Fitz, so if you're local and need a photographer, give her a call!

I love them all!  Thank you, Kamin!!

Water Baby

Saturday, Fitz and I finally got to go swimming at my friend Heather's (Aunt Heddy) house!  We were supposed to go a couple of weeks ago and it rained all day.

Saturday was H-O-T and a perfect day to swim!

I slathered Fitz up with SPF 60 Neutrogena baby sunscreen, and put his hat and sunglasses on.  I sat him on the chair while I got ready to get in the pool, and he clapped with glee at the glistening water!

He loved the water, and didn't fuss at all about wearing his hat and sunglasses.  He had fun splashing the water and even "swam" over to Aunt Heddy one time!   He did NOT love his baby float.  It was pretty steady, so I think he should have felt secure, but he didn't like it at all.  He wanted me to hold him, so that's mostly what we did, just hang out together with Heather and her husband, Destry.

Once Fitz got sleepy, he got in the position above, and I thought he might just drift off to sleep, but he didn't.  We hung out for a few hours, then headed home for a long nap.

I had planned to sign us up for Water Babies class at my gym, but we'll have to miss the first two classes (we are busy!), so I may wait until the next session.

Dreams Realized, Prayers Answered

This picture has nothing to do with this post,
but stay tuned for more pool pics later!

Do you ever have one of those moments where you suddenly are aware that your dreams have become reality, and your most fervent prayers have been answered?  I had one of those moments on our way to church this morning.  I used to drive to church, and glance into the mirror at the backseat and have a daydream that one day I would be driving to church with a baby back there...and today I realized that my dream came true.  I prayed and prayed for a baby, and now I have one.

For that moment this morning, I was overwhelmed at God's grace, and faithfulness.  He says He will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4), and that if you believe, your prayers will be answered (Matthew 21:22).  Having a baby is obviously not the only prayer of mine that has been answered, but I prayed for Fitz, and God gave us a child.  I'm so thankful for him, and for all the dreams I've had, which God has turned into reality.  We serve an awesome God!

"I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him."

Catch-up

We've had a pretty busy week.  Sunday was Father's Day, so after our sweet daddy got off work, we went to Grandmama and Papa's house to celebrate with them for a while.  When we got home, I made Daddy his favorite dinner:  steak and baked potatoes, and we played with Fitz.

Monday night, we went to eat dinner with Pappy at the Cheesecake Factory, to celebrate Father's Day with him.  Uncle Zac went with us, and Fitz sat with him and helped him eat his french fries.

Tuesday night, we went walking with our friend Jessy after work.

Last night, we met up with our friends Denise and Mary Eloise, Amy and her girls, Haley and Heidi for dinner at Del Toro.  I really wanted to get some photos of Fitz and Mary Eloise sitting next to each other in their highchairs, but Fitz was sleepy, and mad about the seat cover ME had in her chair (he won't let me use one for him), so we didn't get any photos.  We did have fun with our friends though!

Now, are you wondering about these photos?  Amy, Heidi and Haley missed Fitz's birthday party because they were in Disney World, so they brought Fitz this cute Mickey hat for his birthday!  During dinner last night, he played with it and used it for a bowl for his sliced carrots, but this morning, I put it on him for a few pics.

I'll try to do better about photos in the next post!  We have some fun events planned for the next couple of weeks, so be ready!

Partyin' and Pickin'

We had such a fun Saturday morning!  First, we went to my friend Tracey's little boy, Colton's, birthday party!  He had a Sesame Street themed party and everything was so cute!  I should have taken a picture of the table because Tracey went all out with her table decor.  She had fruit kabobs, mini chocolate chip cookies, sour gummy worms, M&M's, and goldfish.

Fitz enjoyed swinging and looking at the other children.  He also had a chocolate chip cookie for the first time, and goldfish crackers, which he loved.

When everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Colton, and clapped at the end, Fitz showed off his new trick and clapped right along with us.

Tracey apparently had all of her friends praying for Fitz over the past year, because almost everyone who came to the party got excited when they met Fitz and knew who we were right away!  It was such a blessing to hear all of them comment on how good he looks and to know that they were all praying for us.

When we left the party, we headed to the Black and Blue Berry Festival at a local nursery called Petals from the Past.  I saw an article about the festival in our local paper a couple of weeks ago, and noticed that there was a cooking competition involved.  I called John's mom (Grandmama) and told her she should enter something.  She entered the Peach cooking competition a couple of years ago and won second place.

She made a Blueberry Four Layer Delight and it was delicious!  She didn't place in the competition, but we all agree that hers was the best, even Fitz.  See?

We walked around the festival with Tootsie after we sampled some of the Blackberry and Blueberry entries, and there were tons of people everywhere.

Fitz must take after me, because he didn't look too interested in these blackberries, but he tried to pick him some blueberries:

We took a covered wagon ride all over the property and through the fields, then went back and bought some goodies in the barn.

It was really a fun Saturday morning!  We hope you're enjoying your weekend, too!

Everything Changes

They say everything changes when you have a baby...and I'd say they are correct.  There are so many things that change that it would be difficult to even list them all, but one thing I've noticed is how quickly baby stuff took over our whole house.  I've probably mentioned that I'm a little OCD, and that I like everything to be in its rightful place.  Well, that condition has gotten a little better since Mr. Fitz came along.

BF (Before Fitz), our living room was orderly, with all pillows and coasters in the right place, blankets folded neatly on the couch, and no extraneous personal items left out.  Now, it looks like this:

Toys everywhere, a jumpy exerciser in the corner, baskets of books at the bottom of the armoire where cute framed snapshots and candles formerly resided, and one of the blankets permanently in the floor for Fitz to play on...and of course, the cutest baby in the world right in the middle of it all.

DO NOT look too closely at that gunk under my fridge!

Our refrigerator now houses the alphabet, and a base for the letters which tells Fitz what sound each letter makes when you put the letter in the base.

When I open the silverware drawer, there are little plastic coated baby spoons and Mickey Mouse spoons and forks amid the silverware.  There are drawers in the kitchen which formerly housed junk and/or hand towels, which now house bibs and burp cloths.  Cabinets which had meticulously placed glass nesting bowls, pitchers and cake plates now have baby food, Gerber snacks, multi-colored plastic baby bowls and sippy cups.

And the best change of all?  Tripping over this handsome fella in the kitchen floor while I cook and clean.  Want to know a secret?  I don't miss my orderly, neat house one little bit.  I like seeing evidence of Fitz everywhere I turn.  It makes me smile when I'm in our room, and the bottom drawer of my jewelry chest is open, because I know he's been exploring in there.  Or when our bathroom scale is crooked and not in its spot, because he loves to play with it.

He came along and brought tons of changes, and he is worth every single one.  I would not have it any other way.

Playing with more gifts...

Fitz got lots of riding toys for his birthday, but he doesn't quite have the hang of those yet, so he's enjoying some of his simpler gifts...like this ball from Aunt Bonnie.

He likes for you to roll it to him, and he gets very excited and claps when he gets it, like he really did something exciting!

He also loves his Leapfrog "book" from Kelli and Parker.

It reads along when you turn the page, says the alphabet, and teaches numbers, letters and colors.

I haven't updated in a few days, but all we've really been doing is playing with our new toys.  Our living room has been taken over by toys, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love this boy!

Gifts Galore

Fitz got so many birthday gifts, that we are still pulling them out of the garage one by one, almost daily.

One of the first toys he played with was this 4-wheeler from Tootsie, which Daddy brought in the night of the big birthday bash.

He looks like such a big boy sitting up there!  He's not real sure about what to do with it just yet, but he likes to crawl over to it and touch it, ha.

Uncle Zac bought him a bathtub bubble machine, which he thought was fascinating!

Even after I turned it off, he kept watching it, waiting on more bubbles to come out.

If your gift was left out of the post, don't despair, we are playing with all of them, and loving them!

Mexican Birthday Party

We eat lunch at Del Toro after church every Sunday.  Our friends are the owners and we love it there!

Our friend Melanie's birthday is the day after Fitz's, so this year, she got to share her Flan and sombrero pictures with Fitz!

They had a tiny sombrero for Fitz!

The first thing he did was reach for that candle!

He actually ate some Flan and loved it!

Meeska Mouska Mickey Mouse!

Warning:  this post is chock full of pictures!

Fitz had a whole table full of gifts from our friends and family!

By the time we opened gifts, he didn't want anyone to hold him except me, so Tootsie opened his gifts for us.
At first, we sat Fitz on the picnic table to get his smash cake, but as you can tell, he was NOT happy about that at all!

He was much happier sitting with mom and dad eating his cake.

Mary Eloise went to anyone who wanted to hold her at the party, and gave Fitz lots of hugs...

And she wanted to play with her gift to Fitz, too:

Tootsie had lots of fun feeding her cupcakes:

We had so much fun with lots of family and friends, and everything was perfect for Fitz's first birthday!  Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us!

Well-Check

We interrupt the birthday posts to bring you the details from Fitz's 1 year well-check at the doctor.

He weighs 20 lbs, 4 oz and is 29 inches long!  He continues to measure in the 25th percentile for height, and dropped a little below the 25th for weight.  Our doctor said that it's normal to drop a little between 9-15 months because the babies are crawling and walking and much more active.  She said she is pleased that Fitz has continued to grow in the 25th percentile, especially since he has had two major mouth surgeries this year, and still kept growing where he should be.

Oh yeah, and his head measures in the 75th percentile, ha!  She said his brain is getting everything it needs.

Daddy made us a balloon hand to play with, and Fitz loved it!

The doctor was pleased with his progress on crawling and starting to pull up, and other things he can do, such as waving and shaking his head "no".

She said everything looks great, and we can come back at 15 months!

P.S.  I think my camera hates the wall color at our doctor, it makes everything look yellow.
