Thanksgiving Recap

Fitz had a great first Thanksgiving!

We have so much to be thankful for, and had a wonderful time celebrating it.

Daddy had to work from 7-3, so during the day on Thanksgiving, Fitz and I headed to Tootsie's house and hung out with her and Uncle Zac.

We played a little, and ate a lot, and had a lot of fun!

Our friends Kelli and Elizabeth came over to Tootsie's while we were there, and Fitz was so tickled by Elizabeth!  He laughed every time he looked at her, and we actually caught a great picture!

We went home early in the afternoon so Fitz could take a good nap (and Mommy, too).

When Daddy got home from work, we all went to Papa and Grandmama's for Thanksgiving dinner.  We had chicken and dressing, turkey, green beans, asparagus, sweet potatoes, chocolate pecan pie and chocolate cake!

Fitz had green beans and rice cereal.  Ours looked and tasted better than his, I'm sure!

Our family usually celebrates Thanksgiving with several other families from our church, so since we were finished with Thanksgiving early at Papa and Grandmama's, and Daddy had to work again the next day, Fitz and I went to a third celebration that evening!

Friday, Fitz and I went to Target for the Black Friday sales, but we didn't get there until really late, like 8 a.m. Ha!

I took Fitz to Tootsie's to feed him after Target, and wound up leaving him there so I could be quick at the mall.  I got lots of good deals, and lots of packages!

Don't you just love coming home from a big shopping trip and unloading everything, and seeing what all you got?
Fitz and Aunt Bonnie
Early Saturday morning, Fitz, Tootsie, Uncle Zac and I loaded up and headed to Jackson, Mississippi for our extended family Thanksgiving.

Can you believe that picture of Aunt Bonnie and Fitz is the only one I took all day?

We had lots of fun visiting and passing Fitz around, then Fitz stayed in a hotel for the first time!  He slept all night, just like he does at home.

As you can tell, we were busy all weekend, but we loved every minute of it.  We hope you had a wonderful holiday, too!

I'm thankful...

1.  For my relationship with Jesus Christ, and that He died for my sins.

2.  For my precious baby boy, Fitz.

3.  For my sweet, supportive, and handsome husband, John.

4. That John has a great job (although I wish he didn't have to work on Thanksgiving).

5.  That I have a great job that I love, and look forward to.

6.  That we have a warm house and food on the table.

7.  For my mom, I have no idea what I would do without her.

8.  For having good girlfriends, whether we've been friends for 20 years or 2 years, I'm blessed to have them.

9.  For my extended church family.

10.  That I was born in the United States of America, where I'm free to be thankful for all of these things and enjoy them without fear.

I'm thankful for all of the blessings in my life, which greatly outnumber those I've listed here, but for today, Thanksgiving Day 2011, these are my top 10.

We hope each of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of family, friends and good food!  I'll be back with Thanksgiving pictures after we finish all of our celebrating!

Meet Tanya, aka "Aunt Yaya".  My very best friend from law school, who now lives in Houston, Texas, so I only get to see her on her rare trips to Birmingham.  Guess what?  She's in town for Thanksgiving and we got see her today!

The last time I saw Tanya was at my baby shower in April, and I was VERY pregnant.  Now, she finally got to meet Fitz!  I love the first picture of them, even though he has a huge drool coming out of his mouth, ha!  He drooled all over Tanya while she held him.  I'm glad she has four nieces and nephews, so she's used to babies and their drool and spit-up.

Tanya and I met the week of orientation in law school, and clicked pretty quickly.  We are very much alike, so it's surprising that we get along as well as we do.  We both love to talk, and used to talk over each other on the phone, and not stop until we were done with what we had to say.  When we quit talking, we knew what the other had said.

We talked on the phone for hours at a time, about everything under the sun.  We had "Mexican Mondays" at a cheap Mexican restaurant near our apartments.  We went on road trips to see our other friends from law school, and to the beach.  We discussed religion, guys, and every other student in our law school class.  We laid out at the pool and ate spicy Doritos by the bag, while we laughed at my redneck neighbors.  We cried and we laughed, and sometimes we studied.

We were there for each other all through law school, and since graduation.  I'm not sure what I would have done without Tanya in law school, but I'm sure glad I didn't have to find out.  Since we graduated, she has moved to Texas, where her family lives, and we still talk on the phone...just not as often as we used to.

I'm blessed to have her as a friend, and thankful that she's only a phone call away, but getting to see her was much better than a phone call.  I'm so thankful she came to Birmingham, and got to meet my little man today!

Come back soon Aunt Yaya!

Fitz's First Wedding!

We're still working on rolling over...getting closer everyday!

We're having a fun, busy weekend around here, and we wouldn't have it any other way!  Friday morning, Fitz and I headed out early to meet all of our friends, so we could caravan about an hour away for our friend Jessica's bridesmaids' brunch.  Jessica is marrying our friend Seth, who is our pastor and family friend's son.  Our families have been friends for so long that we're really more like family, and we were honored to be included in all of the wedding festivities!

We went to the bridesmaids' brunch at Jessica's aunt's house, and I must say, the food was delicious!  Any type of breakfast or brunch food you can imagine, we had.  Yum!

We went home after that, and played for a while until it was time to get ready for the rehearsal dinner that night.  Again, so excited to be included in everything!  They had a "tailgate" themed rehearsal dinner in an old school house, and it was so much fun!  Fitz was very well-behaved, and charmed everyone, as usual.

Of course, I had to find a cute outfit for Fitz to wear to the wedding, and just look at this adorable sweater I found for half price at the Ralph Lauren outlet! Oh, couldn't you just eat him up?!?

Daddy and I stood him up to try to get some pictures of the whole outfit, but these two were the best we could do.

He had on khaki colored corduroy pants, and new brown shoes from Target.  The whole outfit was perfect!

We got to the wedding early to feed Fitz his dinner because if we had fed him at home, we would not have been able to get a good seat at the wedding.  He did so well, and didn't even get any carrots on his cute outfit!  Good boy!

Tootsie held Fitz at the back of the church just in case he started fussing.  But, he didn't make a peep!  The flower girl fussed once she was at the front of the church, and another baby cried out several times, but not my boy!  He was quiet the whole time.

The wedding was held at a really pretty venue called American Village.  They have a pretty chapel, and most of the receptions are held in their barn, up the hill from the chapel.  They provide extended golf carts to drive people from the parking lot to the chapel, and from the chapel to the barn.  Fitz thought it was really fun to ride that golf cart, and didn't even complain about the wind!

He was passed from person to person at the reception and didn't mind a bit.  He fell asleep a couple of times, and just hung out and took in his surroundings.  I love that everywhere we go people comment on what a good baby he is, and I'm so thankful that he is so easy going.  He must get that from his dad, ha!

We've had a lot of fun already this weekend, but there's more to come!  We'll go to church today, then to dinner with Pappy tonight for his birthday!  I love this time of year!

Rolling Over?

Lately, we've been playing in the floor a lot.

Fitz enjoys it more than he used to.  He seems to like the freedom to kick and move around on the blanket.

Grandmama bought these funny socks that have rattles in them, and they jumped in the diaper bag when I picked Fitz up from her house this week.

While we were playing Friday afternoon, I decided to try them out.

Fitz kicked and kicked, making lots of noise with his sock rattles.

Then, he got a glimpse of them, and must have noticed that he doesn't usually have animals on his feet!

He rolled all around and finally found a way to get a good look!  Look at that smile on his face...funny feet!

Did he roll all the way over?  Not quite, but he gave it a really good try, and I'm pretty sure it won't be long before he's rolling all over the place!

Happy Veteran's Day!

Happy Veteran's Day to all of the men and women who have selflessly and bravely served, and are still serving our great country!

A special thank you to my wonderful husband, for his service.

He has been deployed several times, and was in the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army, the Big Red One.

I could not be more proud of you, John!

I also thank my other family members who have served, and are still serving!

Happy Veteran's Day!

Thank a veteran, as we would not be where we are today without them!

Dear Fitz (Five Months)

Dear Fitz:

Happy 5 month birthday!  I can not believe you're 5 months old already!  You are getting to be such a big boy.  Look at you sitting up with your bear!

You weighed 15 pounds at your 4 month check-up at the doctor, but I'm sure you weigh at least 16 pounds now.  You wear a size 2 diaper, 3-6 month, or 6 month clothes and 9 month pajamas (you like a little extra room in your jammies).

This month, we started feeding you rice cereal, and you love it!  The first day, you rolled it around in your mouth like you weren't quite sure what to do with it.  We figured out pretty quickly that you like it a little thicker than the doctor suggested, so you get a good grip on it.  You open your mouth wide, like a little bird, when you see the spoon coming!  You're eating rice cereal at breakfast and dinner, and 5 bottles per day, with 7 ounces in each bottle.  You usually eat every bite, and drink every drop.  You also have a couple of ounces of apple juice most days.  You think it's pretty good, too!

You've been sleeping through the night for quite a while, and mommy and daddy appreciate that very much!  You're a great sleeper during the day, too.  You usually take about a 2 hour nap, and another 1 hour nap during the day.

You love to play with your animals:  your sock monkey rattle, green knit elephant, yellow giraffe and dangly moose.  Those are your favorites!  When we put one on your belly, you grab it and bring it straight to your mouth.  You love to sit with us and play, but you also like to lay in the floor on a blanket and roll from side to side.  We're working on trying to get you to roll over, but you're not very interested in that right now.  We're also working on more tummy time, but you prefer your back, and are not afraid to let us know that when we put you on your tummy!

This month, we have discovered that you love to look at your colorful books, and at our cell phones when we're doing something on them.  I think this means you'll be a very smart boy!  You also like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on TV and watch it most mornings while I get ready for work.

You are more and more fun every single day, and we love to hear you coo and "talk".  Daddy says you look like him, but you talk a lot, like me!  You've also been laughing and squealing a lot lately!  You have a great personality, and are a very happy baby.  You usually only cry when you need something.

Mommy and Daddy love you so much, and I pray that you will always feel our love, and know that we love you more than anything!  You are the best thing that ever happened to us, and we are so blessed to have you in our lives!  We just can't wait to see what you do next!  I love you!
